General Features

VAZ 2108 has a three-door all-metal body of a supporting structure. It should be noted that the geometry of this model and the VAZ 2109 are very similar, with the exception of the inner and outer sidewall panels.

The main details of the frame are presented:

The plumage of the body includes such elements as the front panels, represented by the front doors and fenders, the hood, the rear door. Body elements, except for hinged ones, are connected into a single structure by resistance spot welding. Heavily loaded sections are reinforced by electric arc welding. The front part is represented by a vertical shield, mudguards, cross members, radiator frame panels, front spars, connectors, struts, air intake box and some other small elements.

The floor consists of three panels: front, rear and middle floor. Spars are welded along it, forming single longitudinal cavities with the rear and front spars, passing along the bottom. Also, three crossbars, reinforcements and extensions are welded to the floor. Sidewalls consist of internal and external panels. External elements are one-piece parts, including B-pillars, C-pillars and window openings.

The inner panels are combined with strut reinforcements and outer wheel arches. They are reinforced at the back. There are pads on the bottom to increase rigidity. Amplifiers are installed at the front and central pillars. The windshield frame is reinforced at the top and bottom. The roof has two reinforcements and two beams for installing the door. The rear panel is welded to the cross member, sides and floor.

The main body parts are made of mild steel sheet. Their thickness is 0.8 mm, front fender and door panels - 0.7 mm, small elements - 0.8-2.5 mm, amplifiers - 1-1.2 mm.

Details like the front bumper, mirrors, rear bumper are not part of the body structure, so they are not considered.
